Anyone interested in management, business ethics or related topics such as quality of work, quality care, organisational culture or corporate governance, will be confronted with the crucial rolc of management, and more spccifically of the type of leadership it applics. A lot of research has been done on the effects a certain style of leadership might have on the performance of leaders and their organisations, also taking into account differences between men and women, cultural differences, and differences between types of organisations. This research has generated a myriad of theoretical concepts – leadership based on virtues, on situational contingency, on transformation, on participation, or on spirituality etc. – each trying to identity and prescribc the most performing style. Most of these concepts are linked to consultancy or vocational training and adopt a predominantly theoretical or philosophical point of view. However valuable these approaches are, they do not always answer the concrete questions of people managing an organisation day to day. Facilitating leadership fills this gap.
Facilitating leadership offers a practical approach to leadership, based on hands on expericnce as well as scientific literature. It offers an insight in different types of leadership and their ethical implications, and outlines the necessary day to day competences and possible obstacles when applying facilitating leadership.
